Lines is a collection of instrumental tracks that was initially conceived as a gift for a newborn family member. It is a lullaby and a memoir. The primary instrument across the record is an old Yamaha piano I received from my grandmother. It is not a particularly excellent piano, but with carefully placed microphones, hidden moments of beauty are revealed. It's creaky and dusty and it feels like it's been in a grandmother’s living room with all of the comings and goings of life for some many years. There is sadness and the weight of time and the joy of seeing a loved one after a while. My grandfather’s old tape deck weaves in and out with homemade tape loops and runs in duet with my grandmother’s piano in the title track. It was purchased while at war and used during an era of an impending divorce between the two.

The newness of life, the brightness, the yearning to avoid regrets and make right in the world is met by modern austerity and then repurposed to find warmth and connection in the loose strange ties that family affords us.
